Typhoon Nanmadol to clip Luzon, head for Taiwan

Typhoon Nanmadol, which so far had been wobbling around east of the Philippines, is now a major storm. With winds estimated at 149 mph (241 km/h), the storm is slowly making its way towards northeastern Luzon in the Philippines. At the moment, landfall is possible (though not likely) in the sparsely populated northeastern areas of the island. Nanmadol's effects, however, will continue to be felt across much of the Philippines. After clearing the Philippines, the storm will make its way towards Taiwan, but here also, landfall is unlikely. Flooding, rough seas, and high winds are likely to contribute to fatalities, erosion and property damage in the Philippines and Taiwan.
