Cyclone Jal is currently heading towards the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Landfall is a near certainty just north of Chennai (Madras). Winds are currently 80 mph or 130 km/h, however the storm is expected to strengthen before landfall. Currently the India Met Department is calling for more than 250 mm or 10 inches of rainfall. Rough surf, high winds and localized flooding is likely. Landfall will likely occur around midnight tonight, local time. If the storm heads far enough north of Chennai (Madras), it will make landfall in Andhra Pradesh. Either way Andhra Pradesh will be impacted. Karnataka will also be affected, although Bengaluru (Bangalore) looks like it will be missed.
